The Shona believe that the humba, or bush pig, depicts the rough-and-ready animal spirit of tenacity, courage and perseverance. The bush pig's tough spirit is one of the fighter and commands great respect. Tucking his family first into the sheltered den, the bush pig backs into the den with his head facing forward. He will explode out of the den in a lungeing, slashing, frontal attack with his rapier tusks. This wild pig is one of the bravest animals in the African bush and always stands ready to defend its family from marauding predators and will directly battle even the largest lion with amazing success. ©
