Description
The Shona know when they are acting contrary to their conscience, because they feel right or wrong in the relaxation or aching pain in their stomach, called the daba, or the emotional center. To listen to one_s daba means to listen to one_s conscience, called hana, because if one_s stomach is at peace, then one_s course of action is true, honorable and responsible. If hurt or trouble ensues between two people, the Shona will call for a daba to daba. This ancient ritual allows the two people to listen to each other and by placing their hands on their own stomach, to the feel for the truth and discover a way to heal the hurt. Through this ritual, many problems are pacified. When a village has troubles, they call for the greater indaba or ritual meeting of the community elders to solve the problems.©
