Description
The kudu, one of the largest antelopes in Africa, represents a spirit of magical strength. Shona shamans or healers, called ngangas, use the horn of the kudu for special magical potions to heal and strengthen a person's spiritual inner core. The shaman also trumpets the horn to gather the tribe and announce the great indabas, or village council meetings. The artist portrays this beloved African animal to express the endearing theme of a loving family. In Shona society, this essential bond of love between family members stands as the foundation for the entire culture and is called Mhuri.©
