April Brings 10 Year Celebration of South African Independence!
The South African Ambassador to the United States of America, Her Excellency Barbara Masekela, visited the city of Atlanta, GA, earlier this year to mark the launch of South Africa's 10th anniversary celebrations in the U.S.

South Africa sees the anniversary celebration as a unique opportunity to review the decade's progress, to assess the challenges that still lie ahead, and to unite the country and the world beyond in recognition of the remarkable achievement that South Africa officially consolidated its democracy on 27 April, 1994.
The celebrations will emphasize the important role that international friendships and partnerships played in assisting South Africa's quest for freedom. The intention is to harness that same solidarity in strengthening the young democracy for the years ahead. The theme, "Transforming Solidarity for Freedom into Partnerships for Prosperity," is a fitting expression of those ideals.
We applaud South Africa's continuing herculean efforts of democratic nation-building, and we salute its role as a leader and example to its northern neighbor Zimbabwe of what a true democracy can be.
During her visit, Ambassador Masekela briefed various constituencies in Atlanta on the program planned for the year 2004, which will include both formal and informal ceremonies and spontaneous popular events throughout the United States and around the world.
