Sarah Graham - Mastery of Metal
Artist Guest Appearance Oct 15-16, Sonoma Gallery!

“Trying to be safe is a most unsafe thing” —Sarah Graham

Like all great art, that artist’s path has been paved with freedom from convention. It is the contrast in her jewelry—blackened steel juxtaposed with yellow and white gold, textured and polished finish—that is its most eye catching element, and it is the contrast in her jewelry that mirrors her life.

Twice voted the best contemporary artisan jeweler of the 21st Century, Sarah Graham lives within the confluence of metals—both white & yellow gold melded with blackened cobalt steel—

Pebbles Bracelet

''Gold and diamonds have been valued for their beauty for ages — I bring them up to date by contrasting them with blackened steel to create jewelry that is uniquely modern.''

Traveling extensively throughout Africa, Europe, India and South and Central America, Sarah was inspired by the organic nature of their cultures and sought to meet many of the world's finest artisans. From them she has gleaned ideas, techniques and inspiration for her own jewelry designs.

Sarah creates her textured jewelry entirely by hand using a combination of casting and fabrication. She uses highly durable cobalt steel finished with a special oxidizing process, which leaves a lasting matte black finish to her blackened steel pieces. Her jewelry combines the finest Old World craftsmanship with a distinctly modern design sense.
