In Japanese, keshi means "poppy seed". Seedless or keshi pearls are fancy-shaped pearls that are formed when the newly cultured pearl rejects the implant and lays down thick layers of pearl coating to protect itself. Keshi pearls share one characteristic with Chinese freshwater pearls: they are composed entirely of precious pearl nacre and do not contain an implanted nucleus like other marine cultured pearls. Since they are not cultured by human hands, many experts classify them as truly 'natural' pearls. The natural flair of keshi pearls appeal particularly to the savvy and confident collector with an artistic penchant. Keshis offer a broad range of sizes, dramatic shapes and a spectrum of elegant colors.
